Deconstructing an Image
Artist: Vivien Sassen
Genre: Conceptual PhotographyStrategy: Depth of field, emphasis, leading lines
Emphasis: The person is the emphasis as the background is a muted color and the subject is wearing a colorful piece of clothing
Emotional Impact: Sad /Concerned - the way the person is laying down, the head looks as if its missing and the body looks limp. Since the background is almost completely muted the person is the first thing that the eyes go to .
What does the picture tell you: The human form is piece of art that can be folded and placed to create something elegant, frantic or calm. The placement of each body part added to the story being told, this image gives a sad but calm feeling as the arms look limp dangling and the head seems to be missing but the body is in a relaxed position at the same time.
Visual Elements: Color, Texture. Contrast
Motion: Frozen
Light: Diffused light with some shadows, From the front and right side
Composition: The angle seems to be lower front. The subject is laying diagonally on top of a covered ledge with one arm hanging off of the structure and the other placed draping over the torso. Looking closer, the subject's chin can be faintly spotted meaning that their head is leaning back on the structure and not meant to be in sight.
